| - | Participants do not have to perform from memory unless specifically indicated. The names of the chosen pieces must be written on the application form in the space provided. No changes after application will be accepted. In the case that (2)- f) is chosen for the preliminary screening and/or the first round, a copy of the music must be sent along with the application form. |

Preliminary Screening
A preliminary screening will be held to select the participants by documents and recorded performances (CD or MD only).
Perform the pieces indicated below.
| (1) | C.P.E.Bach: the first and third movements from Sonate a-moll, Wq.132 (no repeat for the third movement). |
| (2) | One piece to be chosen by the applicant from the following a) - f). Applicants can use piccolo, flute, alto flute, and/or bass flute only. No microphones, amplifiers, nor the like are permitted. In the case that f) is chosen, a copy of the music the applicant has used must be sent along with the application form.

| * | The choice for (2) in the preliminary screening does not have to be the same as the choice for (2) in the first round. |
| * | The CD or MD for the preliminary screening must not be edited in any way. Recording on the MD should be in standard mode (recording in other modes such as LP will not be accepted). |
| * | It is planned that the results of the preliminary screening will be notified to all the applicants at the end of September, 2008. |
First Round
Perform pieces as indicated below. Performance duration for (1) and (2) together must not exceed 20 minutes. Competitors are allowed to omit, at will, some sections of the piece chosen from (2) to shorten the performance duration down to 20 minutes or less.

Third Round
Perform pieces as indicated below. Performance duration for (1) and (2) together must not exceed 30 minutes. Competitors are allowed to omit any movements or variations in the piece chosen from (2) to shorten the performance duration down to 30 minutes or less.

Final
Perform one piece, either a) or b), chosen by the competitor, from memory, without a conductor.

Accompanist
| - | Official accompanists will be commissioned by the organizer. Competitors cannot name a particular official accompanist for him/herself. Competitors who bring their own accompanist must bear all expenses for the accompanist. |
| - | Competitors in the final will be accompanied by the Kobe City Chamber Orchestra. |
Rehearsal with Accompanist
| - | Rehearsal duration with the accompanist designated by the Management Board is 70 minutes for the second round (about 55 minutes in the rehearsal room and about 15 minutes on the stage), and 70 minutes with the pianist in the rehearsal room for the third round. The rehearsal schedule will be decided by the Management Board. |
| - | Finalists will be given one rehearsal opportunity on the day before the final. |
| - | All the rehearsals are closed to anybody except those authorized by the competition organizer. |
