The first Kobe International Flute Competition was held in 1985,
and since then the competition has been held once every four years.
Although there are many international competitions that are held periodically
all over the world, this is the only competition that is held for the
flute only. Also this competition is an official member of the World
Federation of International Music Competitions.
Starting with Emmanuel Pahud and Emily Beynon, the winners of the past
competitions have now become famous in the world of flutists today,
and the competition is highly valued by music world as a gateway toward
the world .
About the 5th competition this year, 206 flutists from various countries
(32 countries and 1 region) applied for it, and 59 flutists - 40 from
foreign countries and 19 from Japan (from 21 countries and one region)
- passed the qualifying audition. And 38 flutists (21 from foreign countries
and 17 from Japan, from 15 countries and 1 region) participated in the
actual competition. The competition consisted of the 1st , 2nd, 3rd
and the final round, and had been held for 10 days. Contestants performed
many of difficult required pieces one after another. They are equally
matched in skill, so that the competition had been heated with enthusiasm
