Kobe Bunka Hall opened in 1973.<\/p>\n

To celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023, the Kobe Bunka Hall will launch the \"50th Anniversary Series\". The series will feature operas, concerts, plays, and contemporary dance performances that bring together the cultural power of Kobe.<\/p>\n

The themes of the series are \"Port Town,\" \"Theater,\" and \"People. The performing arts to be created in Kobe on these themes  will be presented to you in a three-year series of programs. We hope you enjoy the \"New Era\" that will start again at the Kobe Bunka Hall, a place that has been familiar to many citizens!<\/p>\n

Concept of the \"50th Anniversary Series\"<\/h4>\n

Since the opening of the port of Kobe in the Meiji era (1868-1912),<\/p>\n

Kobe has always been a city with a unique character,<\/p>\n

incorporating diverse cultures and new trends from abroad.<\/p>\n

In the era of Reiwa(2021-), we will continue to inherit the history and activities of our predecessors and make the most of Kobe's diverse assets, such as the sea, mountains, beautiful cityscape, rural landscape, and the people who live there, to improve the town's quality of life and living.<\/p>\n

\u2015This is the guideline that Kobe Mayor Kizo Hisamoto has set forth as the direction of the city's cultural policy.<\/p>\n

In accordance with this guideline, over the next three years, we will focus on the valuable cultural assets of Kobe, such as artists, artistic works, and artists active in Kobe, as well as artistic activities in neighboring areas beyond the city area. We will learn from the history of the Kobe Bunka Hall and renew it, thus creating a new performing arts scene in Kobe.<\/p>\n

We will then transmit these activities from Kobe to the rest of Japan and to the world, passing the baton to the \"new\" Kobe Bunka Hall\". Through these efforts, we aim to enrich the hearts and lives of the people living in the region.<\/p>\n

Theme for 2023 \u201cOde to a port city\u201d<\/h4>\n

Kobe is a port city that has long been active as a place of exchange with foreign countries. Hisato Osawa, a composer whose work reached from Kobe to the world, secretly wrote a  Christian vocal work at the end of World War II.<\/p>\n

Other works in the lineup include a 21st century re-creation of \"The Green Table,\" a German masterpiece from the first half of the 20th century.<\/p>\n

A new play, \"Jazz Daimyo\" written by Yasutaka Tsutsui, will be presented as only Kobe, the birthplace of Japan's first jazz band, can offer.<\/p>\n

In addition, \"The Creation\" (Haydn) will also be presented.<\/p>\n
