Frutta Fantasia is a recorder ensemble directed by Yoshimichi Hamada, who also leads the early music ensemble Anthonello. They made their debut in 2022 at the very same venue as this performance—Kobe Sei-ai Church.
This concert will center on the works of John Dowland, the English master of melancholia, whose anniversary year will be celebrated next year. In addition to a rich recorder consort—perfect for evoking the sonorities of the Renaissance—the program will also feature Dowland’s iconic lute songs. These will be performed by soprano Miki Nakayama and lutenist Kenji Sano, offering a sweetly melancholic soundscape. The ensemble will be joined by rising recorder talent Terumichi Otsuka and percussionist Takashi Tajima, whose vibrant rhythms are essential to Hamada’s signature sound. Their inclusionwill further enrich the ensemble’s texture, bringing even greater depth and color to the performance.
Join us for a luxurious evening in Kobe, where the timeless and vividly colorful music of Dowland will be brought to life—bridging four centuries with undiminished beauty.
